Click here to start helping animals for less than $.50 cents a day In some countries, armed dog control officers randomly shoot dogs in crowded streets. If not killed instantly, the dogs end up wounded and left to die. Shooting, drowning, hanging, and electrocution are just some of the ways countries, particularly those ravaged by war, famine or political upheaval, use to control stray dog populations. Not only are these methods barbaric, they prove ineffective as the stray dog numbers continue to increase around the world. With your help, we can fight the bloodshed. WSPA is already providing much needed mobile clinics fitted with equipment and medical supplies, so dogs receive proper care in rural communities. We're also educating governments and owners on practical solutions like sterilization training and compulsory registration. But as you can imagine, there's so much more to be done.By donating $14 a month to the World Society for the Protection of Animals, you can become a member of the Animal Rescue Team and help save stray dogs and other animals from cruelty.Giving each month is important because it takes time, money and persistence to lobby governments to achieve legislation that outlaws the cruelty of animals. It helps build and establish sanctuaries to rehabilitate the animals you help rescue, and change attitudes to animal welfare through education of children and communities. What’s more, we need your support to help answer urgent calls for acts of such cruelty around the world. So for less than $.50 cents a day you can start saving these animals. AB241 (Nava):  Dogs and Cats:  Breeding For Sale

When we last left off on Tuesday, 14 July, California AB241 had failed (3 - 3) to pass out of Committee.   Assembly Member Nava, the bill's author, asked for re-consideration which was granted without objection by Senate Public Safety Chairman Leno who stated that "It makes it a two year bill."

By now, we all know that Nava was unhappy with the vote.  A new hearing was immediately scheduled for today.  This morning Leno made an announcement on the Senate floor that, following today's Senate floor session, there would be a Senate Public Safety Committee meeting for "vote only" to be held in Room 3191.

On Tuesday, 14 July, here was the vote for AB241:

Leno (Dem) ... Yes
Benoit (Rep) ... No
Cedillo (Dem) ... Yes
Hancock (Dem)... Yes
Huff (Rep) ... No
Steinberg (Dem)... Not present
Wright (Dem) ... No

AB241 has passed out of committee today as amended and is now on its way to Appropriations.  Those Senators voting to support the bill were:  Leno, Cedillo, Hancock, and Steinberg.

Vote:  4-0

Thank you.
